The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) held a business meeting in La Romana on Wednesday. The guest speaker was INICIA partner Amelia Vicini, who spoke about the importance of corporate governance in her presentation entitled "Good Corporate Governance in Family-Owned Businesses."
Vicini presented a timeline of the family business, highlighting the challenges of different eras and the corporate governance structures that developed over time.
Likewise, he emphasized that, "There are multiple business models, management structures, and governance rules, but they all depend on the circumstances, asset objectives, and the business itself. The key is that it guarantees a system of checks and balances to manage family assets and the business."
The INICIA partner emphasized that, while families often focus on developing management skills in future generations, little effort is paid to teaching them to be good owners. In this regard, she emphasized the importance of agreeing on non-negotiable values and principles to guide all company decisions, asserting that "good governance is the key to a company's longevity."
Furthermore, welcoming and introducing the speaker of this Business Meeting, AMCHAMDR's Vice President of the Board of Directors, Francesca Rainieri, emphasized: "Corporate governance is an essential practice for ensuring the sustainability, alignment, and good performance of companies, and who better to speak about it than Amelia Vicini, who embodies the principles of ethical leadership and business vision."
