On the occasion of the recent 96th anniversary of the American Chamber of Commerce, its president, Ramón Ortega, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to positioning the country as a Nearshore platform, integrated into the North American supply chain.
During the Thanksgiving luncheon, Ortega called for trade facilitation to be a national priority and for the country to take advantage of its proximity to the United States to boost its foreign trade in the niche market of companies that are relocating their production to countries near the U.S.
The president of AMCHAMDR also highlighted the transformation in the Dominican Republic's trade and investment landscape over the past 96 years, which has seen the country move from an old, closed economy to a modern, globalized one.
In this regard, he emphasized that this transition has been marked by numerous economic reforms, integration into key value chains, and significant growth in foreign investment and bilateral trade, especially with the United States, which remains the Dominican Republic's main trading partner.
In his speech, Ortega highlighted the good relationship AMCHAMDR has maintained with the United States Embassy over the years.
"For almost a century, we have worked with the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic, an entity to which we share common goals. This year, we strengthened our ties through the signing of a commercial services agreement to provide commercial support and promote U.S. companies interested in doing business in the Dominican market," he revealed.
He also stated that since July 2018, we have had an ally within the Embassy, a leader who champions the union between the Dominican Republic and the United States.
