After the great reception of the first edition among business leaders of the country and the region, the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic will organize its second AmCham CEO TALKS This coming Friday, August 28th at 4:00 PM.
The virtual event, to be held in English, will feature Mark Bristow, president of Barrick Corporation, who will discuss the role leaders must play within their companies in the face of the new normal, as well as his vision for the future of business in the mining industry.
The meeting will be exclusively for senior executives of companies associated with the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) and members of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA).
Effective January 1, 2019, Bristow was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Barrick Corporation, following the completion of the merger with Randgold Resources, the latter company where he served as Chief Executive Officer.
Academically, he holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Natal in South Africa, training that enabled him to begin exploration work in West Africa that later laid the foundation for Randgold.
Bristow led Randgold's growth since 1995 through the discovery and development of high-quality assets in the international gold mining business. Throughout his 30-plus-year career, which began in the South African gold and platinum mining industry, he has held board positions at several global gold mining companies and played a significant role in promoting sub-Saharan Africa as a business destination for the resources sector.
He has pioneered the concept that for mining to be sustainable in emerging markets, the industry must focus on delivering value to all stakeholders.
AES Corporation CEO Andrés Gluski participated in the first edition of the event, where he stated that public-private partnerships will facilitate economic recovery during this COVID-19 situation.
