Planning to invest in the Dominican Republic? Learn how the One-Stop Investment Shop works.

Mar 26, 2020

It is a reality that, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, the investment landscape in the country has changed radically.

Invest MedianaInvestors have chosen to postpone capital investment until the tide stabilizes and the economy recovers.

However, if your plans include injecting capital in the medium or long term, you should be aware of the applicable legislative framework. In this post, we'll explain the importance of the One-Stop Investment Shop and how it works.

All permits and licenses required to develop domestic and foreign investment projects in the Dominican Republic are processed through the One-Stop Investment Window, a digital and physical platform that, since November 2012, centralizes the government procedures required for each investment sector.

Through this platform, investors access tools and information that facilitate the management of the various stages required to launch their operations in the country. This is also in response to public policy seeking to improve the business climate, linked to the development of the Dominican Republic's productive sectors.

To achieve this objective, it is essential that the procedures for granting permits, licenses, and certifications not be excessively complex or lengthy.
What does this platform aim to achieve? Simplify processes, save time and money, and increase transparency, confidentiality, and legal security.

In this context, the VUI coordinates investment processes with the various public institutions involved, serving as a single point of entry for the documents required for investment. It also works hand in hand with government institutions to ensure the implementation of the "plan for improved and standardized permits and authorizations."

The Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) is the entity that coordinates the facilities implemented by the Single Window for Investment (VUI). In addition, the Ministry of the Presidency, through the Presidential Commission for the Coordination of the Single Window for Investment, oversees this agency.
