The 27th edition of Dominican Week (#SemDomUSA19), held in Washington and New York, became a platform to promote the recovery of the country's image as a safe tourist market in the United States and to promote the advantages of implementing nearshore tourism in the Dominican Republic.
This was stated by the president of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), Ramón Ortega, who highlighted that #SemDomUSA19 served as the setting for the meeting between a delegation of Democratic Senator Charles Schumer and House of Representatives member Adriano Espaillat, where the country's tourism situation was analyzed.
Ortega highlighted the importance of the panel, where the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, reaffirmed before international media the importance of tourism security and the measures implemented by the Dominican government to guarantee the safety of foreign visitors. García was accompanied by Rafael Blanco, First Vice President of ASONAHORES; Robin Bernstein, United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic; and investors Alex Zozaya and Bruce Wardinski, presidents of Apple Leisure Group and Playa Hotels and Resorts, respectively.
In addition to Ortega, the meeting, held at the congressman's offices in the Capitol, was attended by Roberto Herrera and Francesca Rainieri, vice president and secretary of the Board of Directors of AMCHAMDR; Rafael Blanco and Simón Suárez, first vice president and past president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (ASONAHORES), respectively; and César Dargam, executive vice president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP).
On the other hand, Ortega insisted that during Dominican Week, the Dominican Republic's opportunity to attract foreign investment through nearshore investment, which involves relocating supply chains closer to the United States, was analyzed.
Likewise, he advocated for the facilitation of foreign trade and integration into international value chains to continue to be a joint effort between the public and private sectors.
The AMCHAMDR president's remarks came during the monthly September luncheon, which featured the president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) as a guest speaker. He spoke on the topic: "The Dominican Republic of the Future: Goals and Consensus."
