What progress has been made at the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII) during Luis Valdez's administration? To answer this question, the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) will organize a virtual meeting with the current director general of the entity.
The event will be held next Wednesday, July 21, via a virtual platform to present to AMCHAMDR members and associates the culture that Luis Valdez has implemented in the management of that state agency since taking office on August 17, 2020.
This will be the official's first presentation at the AMCHAMDR Encounter, where he is also expected to present his views on the tax situation in the Dominican Republic and how tax collections have performed amid the country's ongoing health crisis.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Valdez holds a law degree from the University of the Third Age (UTE), a Master's degree in Tax Law and Tax Procedure from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), and also holds diplomas in the Mortgage Market and Trusts from the Ibero-American University (UNIBE) and in Political Economy (Jose Francisco Peña Gómez Institute).
Prior to his appointment as Director General of the DGII, Valdez served as the institution's internal messenger from 1981 to 1984. He subsequently became an assistant to the Deputy Legal Director until 1986, when he moved to the Department of Supervision of Local Agencies until 1989.
From 1996 to 1999, he served as Director of the Municipal Industrial Complex and then Director of Municipal Taxes and Revenue until 2002. He was also a budget consultant for the Social Welfare Program of the current Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD)-Inter-American Development Bank from 2002 to 2003, and then Administrative Director of the Social Cabinet from 2003 to 2004. From 2007 to 2016, he worked as a private consultant.
