The First National Logistics Report of the Dominican Republic is presented

Feb 18, 2022

The national logistics sector is showing positive growth, driven by the objectives set forth in the country's various growth strategies, both in the 2030 National Development Strategy and the National Cargo Logistics Plan.

Primer InformeThis is revealed in the First National Logistics Report, an initiative of the National Competitiveness Council (CNC), with technical cooperation from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and consulting services from the National Observatory of Logistics and Freight Transportation of the Dominican Republic (ONLT-RD) and the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC). This initiative, carried out as part of efforts to make the country the logistics hub of the region, is part of the initiative.

The report recommends that educational institutions at the technical and higher levels promote training programs with specialists in supply chains, exports and imports, as well as in storage and the dissemination of logistics aspects contemplated in the 2030 National Development Strategy.

The presentation, held in INTEC's Social Security Auditorium and broadcast live on the university's YouTube channel, included the participation of Peter Prazmowski, executive director of the National Competitiveness Council; Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of INTEC; and Katharina B. Falkner-Olmedo, representative of the IDB.

The report was presented by Luis Toirac, coordinator of the National Observatory of Logistics and Freight Transportation of the Dominican Republic, and Cristyan Peralta, commercial director of Haina International Terminals (HIT), who explained the report's impact on the country's logistics sector.

The results of this document will inform public policymaking and position the country as a world-class logistics hub. It will also measure the performance of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (CNFC), helping to identify projects and initiatives that should be adopted within this Committee to improve the sector's competitiveness.

The first report contains two phases: the first is the development of benchmark indicators on the country's logistics performance, taking into account international reports; and the second is a national survey of this sector.

For the national survey of the logistics sector, the conceptual and methodological design was carried out, and the questionnaire was administered to members and executors of activities in the logistics sector. It was used as a projection model to regularly measure the performance of these stakeholders and gather detailed information about the perspectives of specialists in the field. The anonymity of the participating companies and organizations was protected when administering the instrument.
