AES Corporation CEO Andrés Gluski was the first guest at the “AmCham CEO Talks,” organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) with senior executives from the country and Latin America.
The AmCham CEO Talks provide a virtual space where senior C-Suite executives from the American Chamber of Commerce membership and their regional counterparts can interact and learn lessons from a world-class CEO.
Santo Domingo, July 31.- "For a rapid economic recovery to occur, businesses must survive, and this is achieved when both governments and businesses work hand in hand." This statement was made by the CEO of AES Corporation, Andrés Gluski, during his presentation at the first edition of “AmCham CEO Talks” an online meeting organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) with senior executives from the country and Latin America.
Gluski understands that in this context, where companies are fighting for survival in an economic environment impacted by COVID-19, the private sector needs to acquire new technologies and innovations that minimize costs and promote growth.
He also emphasized that businesses need to accelerate the implementation of new projects and, in collaboration with the public sector, need to maintain the employment of their employees to strengthen social investment and the socioeconomic development of the communities where they operate.
The AES president addressed the projected decline in the region's economies due to the arrival of COVID-19. He specifically expressed concern regarding the financing of the fiscal deficit, as Latin American countries are unable to issue debt in their own currencies.
"Today, more than 50% of COVID-19 cases worldwide are in Latin America. We are the epicenter of the pandemic, and we are not necessarily the best prepared to confront it." He stated this during the event attended by leaders of companies associated with AMCHAMDR and members of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce of Latin America (AACCLA).
The senior executive emphasized that COVID-19 prevention measures must continue, as, based on his own company's experience, the effects of the pandemic can be minimized by following hygiene rules, social distancing, and the use of masks.
Prior to Gluski's remarks, AMCHAMDR Executive Vice President William Malamud spoke about the importance of digital transformation in businesses to connect with the needs of their audiences.
In that sense, he spoke about how the American Chamber of Commerce innovated its value proposition of connecting with its members and reinvented itself to provide them with new business opportunities, best business practices, and new ideas.
“As part of this transformation, we are pleased to launch today the first edition of a new digital service: AmCham CEO Talks, whose concept is to provide a virtual space where senior C-Suite executives from our membership and other AmChams can interact and learn from a world-class CEO”, Malamud reported.
He also highlighted the role played by the Association of American Chambers of Commerce of Latin America in sharing ideas among AmChams and in connecting and offering common branded services to their members.
