Santo Domingo. The Legal Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) and the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) held a thematic breakfast entitled "The Role of Competition in Efficient Market Economies."
The activity was held to promote the importance of competition in strengthening efficiency and competitiveness, as well as the importance of implementing Competition Policy Compliance Plans for the private sector.
The meeting took place in the Churchill Room of the Real Intercontinental Hotel and was opened by AMCHAMDR President David Fernández.
“Free trade and competition law have the same objective: to maximize the well-being of consumers and businesses through competition. As such, they should be considered two sides of the same coin, supporting each other,” Fernández stated.
In this regard, the businessman stated that to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by free trade and the global economy, it is essential to have initiatives that promote and defend competition.
Yolanda Martínez, president of ProCompetencia, contextualized the activity's program and reaffirmed the institution's commitment as guardians and guarantors of the defense of competition among the country's economic agents. "It is very important that companies or economic agents approach us voluntarily to identify potential risk areas and address those risks through compliance plans," she stated.
