Starting April 15, the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII) will waive the advance payment of Income Tax (ISR) for taxpayers who are legal entities or sole proprietor businesses.
The DGII states that the measure, which benefits more than 99.5% of the country's companies that paid advances last year, was adopted based on the powers granted by the Tax Code in force majeure scenarios.
The decision was said to be part of a series of recently announced measures to help taxpayers cope with their financial situation in the face of the impact of COVID-19.
Given this situation, only 300 companies will be subject to paying the advance payment in April. These are those belonging to the Large Taxpayers Management Department that are operating fully or partially. In this case, the DGII indicated that they can opt for full or partial exemption from paying the fee by submitting a request through the appropriate channels if their operations have been affected by the presence of COVID-19.
The Internal Revenue Service also announced that, for taxpayers with current payment agreements, the payment of installments due in April, May, and June will be deferred for three months.
"Circumstances compel the DGII to play a facilitating role, without neglecting its mission of collecting the taxes that sustain the state, adopting measures that provide financial relief to taxpayers in this difficult situation the country is experiencing," reads a statement.
The tax measures seek to support the various economic sectors that have been impacted by the spread of the COVID-19 virus and are part of the practices being implemented by tax administrations around the world during this time.
The Internal Revenue Service reiterated its call to taxpayers to use digital platforms as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 outbreak.
