Jan 28, 2021

Work has resumed on the development of the National Nearshoring Strategy, which will position the Dominican Republic as an ideal investment destination in the region.

EstrategiaNacionalNearshoring MedianaDuring the most recent meeting of the Nearshore Working Group, led by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) and the Ministry of the Presidency of the Republic, opportunities for inter-institutional coordination were identified to develop public policies to attract investment in this sector.

Representatives from the Ministries of the Presidency, Foreign Affairs, Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs participated in the virtual meeting held in mid-January, as well as leaders from AMCHAMDR, the Dominican Association of Free Trade Zones (ADOZONA), the Association of Foreign Investment Companies (ASIEX), the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), and ProDominicana.

Among the points discussed were the establishment of processes and responsibilities for each institution, as well as the establishment of permanent communication and monitoring mechanisms for each initiative.

It is recalled that last November, the Ministry of the Presidency and AMCHAMDR signed a public-private strategic alliance focused on four pillars: positioning the country as a nearshore destination and logistics hub, digital transformation, and improvements in public administration processes and procedures.
