CONEP urges progress agenda

Sep 17, 2019

CONEP President Pedro Brache urged the country's leadership to remain involved in defining strategies and making decisions to ensure that, regardless of the circumstances that may arise and whoever is leading public institutions, the progress agenda remains on track.

Pedro Brache Almuerzo AMCHAMDR Web 700x600During his presentation, "DR of the Future: Goals and Consensus," at the American Chamber of Commerce's (AMCHAMDR) monthly luncheon, Brache asserted that the current context, facing the Fourth Industrial Revolution, represents an unprecedented challenge, not only for the government and its institutions, but also for all economic and productive sectors.

He stated that "the country has been leading the region's economic expansion for decades, with average growth of 51% of the third quarter and peaks of up to 71% of the third quarter. And this reality is, above all, the result of the efforts and drive of thousands of entrepreneurs of all sizes and in all sectors."

The president of CONEP also noted that “the private sector, as a whole, is the true engine of the Dominican economy. Through the constant creation of jobs, the collapse of poverty rates, and the emergence of a middle class in our country. Over the last 15 years, with more than 85% of private participation in the economy, 87% of consumption, and 90% of growth, we have established ourselves as the country in the region where this sector has the greatest impact.”

He explained that in the transparent and hyperconnected society we live in, "communication is orbital," and citizens act according to their beliefs and interests. In this context, to be successful, "we must be able to connect, to generate a shared purpose, an inspiring goal that mobilizes and identifies us."

He invited the business community to get involved and participate in the 9th Business Convention, a forum where they will have the opportunity to generate proposals for solutions to issues on the national agenda, including the current development model, innovation, productivity gains, institutionalization, and sustainability, to lead the nation toward greater growth and competitiveness.

The business leader reiterated that CONEP is willing to engage in dialogue and cooperation with all stakeholders across the political spectrum and with society as a whole, in building common goals that will allow for long-term solutions, always driven by the "win-win" principle.
